Our Blues vs. Extraordinary Attorney Woo

If you’re like me, you spend all your waking hours watching K-dramas (ok, I also drink, but so do people in K-dramas). Two notable ones have been Our Blues and Extraordinary Attorney Woo. The first is set on Jeju island and is an ensemble drama with a lot of characters yelling at each other. Extraordinary Attorney Woo is set in Seoul and is a fictional portrayal of the first autistic attorney in Korea. Which is right for you? Find out below.

OUR BLUES

Pluses

Set as far away from Seoul (where every K-drama seems to take place) as possible.

Everyone’s always yelling at each other and sometimes they even punch each other!

Real working class characters, many struggling to get by.

Lots of sucky parent-child relationships, just how I likes it!

Minuses

I never thoughts I’d say this, but there may be slightly too much yelling even for me.

Weird pro-life subplot about a teenager NOT having an abortion even if that will ruin her chances of getting into Seoul National. Who the hell gives up Seoul National?

EXTRAORDINARY ATTORNEY WOO

Pluses

Attorney Woo loves gimbap, which means many scenes have gimbap in it.

Many different kinds of gimbap, including a crab one that made me almost pass out.

Attorney Woo actually went to Seoul National! No teenage pregnancy! Top honors!

Attorney Woo loves whales so there are many shots of whales and dolphins jumping out of the ocean.

Minuses

Not enough yelling. Though because it’s set in a law firm…Still, could use more yelling.

Kinda cliched “savant” portrayal of autism.

Central love story seemed a little by the numbers. Was expecting characters to feed each other gimbap in sexy manner, but no such luck.

So there you have it. Two great dramas with some problems.

As for drinking, I had 15 this week. Just one over my limit, but I went to Colorado and that place was meant for boozing. Happy viewing, y’all!
